Where do I find myself in this story? I find the story a little abstract, which is probably more an indication of how my brain works. But if I had to pick where I fit in the story I would say I am the dog pulling at the strings. If you ask me why I say that I would have a hard time coming up with and explanation.

I appreciate you sharing and I agree that this story specifically and many mythsand folk tales don't necessarily have the tidy story arc that we're used to with more modern means of sharing stories. There's a lot more ambiguity. I usually don't have some well articulated metaphor for why I find myself in a certain place either, but usually there's some image that just shines a bit brighter.

I think the dog is an agent of chaos in the story. I have a hypothesis about why you find yourself there, but that's not really my role as a storyteller to tell you why you find yourself there. Maybe you'll find your reason or maybe that dog will echo around in your brain for decades and never make a literal connection. As I was exploring this story more in depth, I kind of asked the grandmother why she kept letting the dog pull apart the tapestry. She Saud, "if you don't stop to reconsider what you are creating how do you know it is the right thing."
